Description:
“I feel safer on the racetrack then I do driving from my house to the supermarket.”
Jeff Gordon, NASCAR Driver
Winston Cup Champion

If you picked 100 people at random, put them together in a room, and ask them “How many of you are good drivers?” chances are that most if not all of them will raise their hand with confidence. Meet some of these same people out on the local highways tomorrow and you’ll probably be left wondering if they even understood the question.

Every day your cooperative’s drivers take to the roads in the service of your consumers and, as they drive, they interact with fellow motorists, good and bad. Your drivers probably know they need to keep their vehicles in top repair and they understand the importance of obeying traffic laws but, beyond this, is there anything more that they can do to help assure that your organization has a chance for accident-free fleet operations? You bet there is.

Ninety percent of safe driving performance comes down to having the right attitude behind the wheel. This program focuses on how driver attitudes and other human factors impact and influence behind-the-wheel performance. The session examines common misconceptions about what really causes vehicle accidents and offers simple, straightforward guidelines designed to help your drivers avoid vehicle mishaps.

Approach:
This newly created, interactive session offers a fresh, humorous look at what it really takes to be an excellent driver. The first half of the session is a one-way presentation but the second half includes a fast-paced series of road encounters in which participants are asked to quickly analyze different driving scenarios and indicate how they should react to them.

Audience:
Suitable for anyone that drives a vehicle as part of their duties for your cooperative.

Size Group:
Recommend 20 to 25 but larger groups are relatively easy to manage.

Estimated Time:
2 hours.

Setting/equipment:
Meeting room large enough to comfortably accommodate the planned group. Flip chart or large marker board.
